Photomontage Ideas

I have several ideas for my photomontage. I want my montage to be a little bit surreal, but also say something about myself and what I like. i found this montage that has had "stamp" filter put over it. this is what i am aiming for, something that is dirrerent but can also realate to myself.

To so this i am going to take several pictures of things that will represent myself. Then using photoshop i can alter the image and give it my own twist.

I also had an idea to do a "Rosler" inspired montage. i was going to do a montage that will make a statement about what is going on at the moment in the public eye. This could be several things and my options are extensive.

I am going to go for the first option as I feel it will be better to show a montage about myself than about something that doesn't realate to me. I also think that it will most tie in with the "changing landscapes" breif.

Hannah Höch

In her work, Hannah Höch used photos, other paper objects, pieces of machines and various other objects to produce images, usually quite large. I think that her work is very surreal and weird. However, I think the way that Höch has put the pictures in her montages together is very clever and gives a good effect. Tese are but some of her extensive collection:

Martha Rosler

Martha Rosler is a phographer who uses mostly images accompanied by text. Roslers works focus on social issuses, for example the war in Afganistan, but they all show other sceanes such as the kitchin and street life. Some of her most recent photomontages, sutch as "Cellular" (shown), create several thoughs in your mind about society and how we react to events like war. I like Roslers work because the pictures look like they have just been taken, and it is only on closer inspection that we can see they consost of several different images.

David Hockney

During the 1970's to the mid 1980's David Hockney worked alot with photomontage. He used several polaroid snaps of one subject to make a composite image, like the one above. he took pictures from several anglesand at different times to replicate what a person would see in real life. this was later known as 'the joiners'.

Amature stop-motion

This is an example of some more basic stop motion photography. the two guys have put together a good video showing some of the easy stuff you can do with stop motion.

Stop motion

Stop motion is the technique that photographers use togive the illusion that an object is moving on it's own. This works by taking several pictures of an object and moving them a small amount each time. When thes pictures are put into a sequence it gives the illusion of self movement.

Aardman studios use these techniques to create Morph and Wallace & Gromit (see video)
